SALEM TOWNSHIP — Mt. Abram pulled away from Carrabec down the stretch to earn a 49-27 victory in Mountain Valley Conference girls basketball action Wednesday night.

Mt. Abram (7-5) led 30-20 at the end of the third quarter, but Carrabec (3-8) got within five in the fourth quarter before the Roadrunners closed out the win.

Tori Beane had a game-high 17 points and Miranda Smith added 13 for Mt. Abram. Makayla Leeman and Jessica Vaillancourt each paced the Cobras with seven points.

Valley 47, Buckfield 31: Teagan Laweryson and Hali McQuilkin each scored 13 points as the Cavaliers won in East-Conference play at home.

Laweryson added five rebounds, four steals and an assist for Valley (4-6), which flustered Buckfield with a 1-3-1 zone to open the game and jump to a 13-5 lead.

Caitlin Henderson led Buckfield (2-10) with 10 points.

Boys basketball

Buckfield 55, Valley 52: Allen Hedrick hit a 3-pointer with two seconds remaining as the Bucks upset the Cavaliers in Bingham.

Hedrick (16 points) led four Buckfield players in double figures. Austin Dooley scored 13 points, Trevor Averill added 11, and Chase Barned had 10. The Bucks improved to 2-9 with the win.

Caleb Wade and Josh West each scored 14 points for Valley (8-2). Seth Malloy added 11 points. The Cavaliers, who rallied from an eight-point halftime deficit to take the lead by the end of the third quarter, were hurt by 16 turnovers.
