Slip sliding away
AUGUSTA — No one was injured Thursday when a Cape Air plane loaded with passengers slid off the runway at the Augusta State Airport. However, company officials in Boston dispute that the plane left the runway.

Battalion Chief David Groder, of the Augusta Fire Department, said the plane slid on ice and went off the runway when it powered up to begin takeoff.

Groder said 10 people were on board the plane, which was not damaged.

The plane was quickly pulled back onto the runway and took off, Groder said.

On Friday, Cape Air spokesman Michelle Haynes said the plane had been remained on the runway at all times.

“The pilot noticed a patch of ice and immediately stopped and called for a tug,” she said. “They went to a dry part of the runway and took off. At no point did any part of that aircraft leave the runway.”
