SAN DIEGO, Calif. — Carrier Strike Group 1 recently held a change of command ceremony on board USS Carl Vinson. Rear Adm. Thomas K. Shannon relieved Rear Adm. Samuel Perez as commander, CSG-1.
Shannon graduated from Lawrence High School in Fairfield in 1978 and graduated from Maine Maritime Academy in Castine in 1982. Carrier Strike Group 1 is now deployed to the Western Pacific.
Shannon’s previous position was deputy chief of staff for Operations, Training and Readiness, Commander, Pacific Fleet.
