WATERVILLE — Cony High School graduate Rachael Mack had 18 points, nine rebounds and three assists as the Colby women’s basketball team beat Trinity 60-56 in a New England Small College Athletic Conference game Friday.

Jil Vaughan added 12 points and eight rebounds for Colby (12-2, 3-1) while Jacky McLaughlin chipped in with 11 points.

Trinity (6-8, 1-3) was led by Heather Lyhne with 14 points and seven rebounds.

Hartford 64, Maine 52: Samantha Baranowski scored a career-high 19 points to go along with six rebounds but it wasn’t enough for the Black Bears in an America East game in East Hartford on Thursday night.

Ashleigh Roberts scored 15 points off the bench for Maine (4-15).

Nikkia Smith and Daphne Elliott each scored 15 points to pace the Hawks (11-9).

Men’s hockey

Middlebury 3, Colby 1: John Yanchek earned his 40th career victory, making 19 saves as the Panthers beat the Mules in a New England Small College Athletic Conference game in Waterville.

Colby (3-12-0, 1-10-0 in the conference) took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Mike Doherty from Dan Nelson.

Nick Resor scored two goals, while Charles Nerbak had one for Middlebury (7-5-2, 6-3-0 in the conference).

Women’s hockey

Maine 1, UConn 1, OT: Dominique Goutsis scored the lone goal of the game for the Black Bears in their tie, in Orono.

Brittany Ott made 25 saves for the Black Bears, who are 12-8-6 overall, 6-6-2 in Hockey East play.

UConn (3-15-7, 2-7-3 in Hockey East) tied the game in the third period on a goal by Jocelyn Slattery. Nicole Paniccia had 37 saves for the Huskies.

College skiing

Bates Carnival: Marc Massie led three Colby College Alpine skiers in the top 21 and Natalie Biedermann finished 16th for the women at the Bates College Carnival at Sunday River.

Massie finished 12th with a two-run time of 2:31.52. Teammate Will Randall was 18th at 2:32.25 and Brian Morgan 21st in 2:33.30. Colby finished fifth with 74 points.

For the Colby women, Biedermann finished with a two-run time of 2:36.60 to help the women finish seventh.

For the Colby men’s Nordic team, Jake Barton finished 12th overall and 11th among Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association Skiers with a time of 27:48.6 in the 10K freestyle race. Levin Zars finished 27th for the Mules, who were sixth out of 12 teams with 65 points.

For the Colby women’s Nordic team, Lizzie Anderson finished 20th with a time of 15:48.0 over the 5K course.
