WATERVILLE — St. Mark’s Episcopal Church will hold a special service at 3 p.m. today to celebrate the new ministry and to welcome a new rector. The Rev. John Balicki will be presided over by The Rt. Rev. Stephen Lane the Bishop of Maine. A reception will follow in the parish hall.

Because of today’s service, there will only be one service of morning prayer at 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

Catholic schoolskick off celebration

WINSLOW — Winslow Knights of Columbus will sponsor a a roast beef supper to kick off Catholic Schools Week celebration in the St. John Regional Catholic School cafeteria following the 4 p.m. Mass Saturday, Jan. 28. The cost for the dinner is $6 for adults, $3 for children and $20 for immediate family.

Tours will be given of the school presented by fifth- and sixth-grade students. There will also be a school history video in the French room hosted by Val Landry and Sarah Sirois, and a demonstration of the Hitachi Smartboard. All week there will be a variety of events that focus on faith, striving for high academic standards and serving the community.

SMITHFIELD — The Smithfield Baptist Church will honor and bless elected church leaders during the 10 a.m. Sunday worship service. Light refreshment and fellowship will follow.

Family film night planned in Waterville

WATERVILLE — A free family film night featuring “Courageous” is planned for 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at Kennebec Valley Baptist Church, Marston Road.

A freewill offering will be taken to benefit World Vision, a relief organization.

Refreshments will be served, and a nursery will be provided.
