Fire damages Skowhegan home

SKOWHEGAN — A couple will have to find another place to live after a fire destroyed part of their home on Prospect Street late Friday.

The fire started on the outside of the ranch-style home where a pellet stove connected to a vent, Skowhegan Fire Chief Tom Keene said. The blaze then spread up the wall, under the eaves and into the attic.

Keene said owners Brad and Linda Chandler had just gone to bed when Brad Chandler heard a noise. “He got up to investigate the noise and could see, looking out his window, the fire on the outside wall of his home,” he said. He called 911 at 9:57 p.m.

The home at 27 Prospect St. is still standing, but the roof, attic and ceiling in the living room will need to be rebuilt. There was also smoke and water damage.

“The home is not livable right at this time. It’s going to need repairs,” Keene said. The house was insured.
