CANAAN — Daniel Swain, a Democrat from Canaan, has announced his candidacy for state House District 28.

Swain, 24, grew up in Canaan and moved to Machias after high school to start college. He graduated from the University of Maine at Machias in 2010 with a degree in history and public administration.

He works as a direct support professional for Spurwink Services in Brunswick. He is unmarried.

The towns in District 28 are Canaan, Cornville, Palmyra, Hartland and St. Albans. Dean Cray, R-Palmyra, now holds the seat.

“Ever since I went to the State House on a fourth-grade trip, I’ve been involved in politics and government, everything from simply watching the news to working on campaigns,” Swain said in a news release. “That interest has now evolved to the point that I want to run for the legislature to represent my home town area.”
