FAYETTE — Town officials are urging residents to be on the lookout for snowmobilers with more in mind than a joyride.
Town Manger Mark Robinson said Thursday that at least one person discovered tracks suggesting that a snowmobiler was scoping out a home for a future burglary.
“Please be on guard,” Robinson said.
He said a Young Road resident came home recently to discover snowmobile tracks circling the house and footprints leading up to windows.
Robinson said the town was struck by burglars late last month when thieves broke into a Route 17 home. It’s an ongoing problem, he said.
He asked those who see suspicious activity to call police at 624-7076 or the Town Office at 685-4373.
Chimney fire response slowed by icy roads
MONMOUTH — Firefighters found themselves on a slippery slope Wednesday night after responding to a chimney fire on Neal Lane.
Fire Chief Andre Poulin said nobody was hurt and the home was not damaged when the chimney fire broke out around 5:30 p.m. at 61 Neal Lane.
“The only challenge was it was on a camp road,” Poulin said. “We had to have the highway department help us get out of there. It was all ice.”
Town public works crews plowed and sanded the road to allow the firetrucks to get back on the main road. None of the firetrucks ever got stuck, Poulin said.
The chimney fire broke out in a year-round home near Annabessacook Lake.
Last summer, firefighters were called to a home just two houses down the lane after a woman was injured by a flash fire while trying to light a propane gas water heater.
