FARMINGTON — In celebration of Theodora J. Kalikow’s visionary leadership during her 18-year tenure as president of the University of Maine at Farmington, experiential workshops in meditation and mindfulness of Bhavani Lorraine Nelson, a professional-level Kripalu Yoga teacher will be presented.

The free events are open to the public Wednesday through Saturday at various campus and community venues.

The following experiential workshops in meditation and mindfulness by Bhavani Lorraine Nelson are planned:

* Chanting workshop, 11:45 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday in the Lobby of UMF Education Center. Nelson, will present the practice of Sanskrit chanting.

* Soundplay is set for 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the office of Christie James, Western Maine Osteopathic Healthcare, 225 Main St. This is the foundation workshop for all of Nelson’s work with sounding. To register, call 778-7242; space is limited.

* Kirtan will begin at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Performance Space, Emery Community Arts Center. Nelson will present the enchantment of Sanskrit chanting with drum accompaniment. Reception to follow.

* Meditation Made Possible is set for noon-1 p.m. Friday at The Landing, UMF Olsen Student Center.

* Transforming Stress Inside and Out will take place from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday in the North Dining Hall A, B and C, UMF Olsen Student Center. Nelson will share a tool kit of transformative stress-relieving techniques and practices.

Seating will be available at the chanting and meditation workshops. Participants are encouraged to bring yoga mats or cushions for their personal convenience.
