AUGUSTA — Several people were indicted Friday by a grand jury in Kennebec County.

An indictment is not a determination of guilt, but it is an indication that sufficient evidence is present to proceed with formal charges and a trial in superior court.

• Clinton J. Ashby III, 55, of Pembroke, theft by deception involving more than $10,000 from the state between May 12, 2011, and Nov. 9, 2011, in Kennebec County.

• David W. Berube Jr., 34, of Gardiner, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person Jan. 14, 2012, in Waterville.

• Scott A. Bickford, 35, of Winslow, three counts of aggravated assault and one count each of conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, and tampering with a victim, all Oct. 11, 2011; and tampering with a witness or informant between Oct. 11, 2011, and Dec. 13, 2011, all in Winslow.

• Merideth K. Finley, 28, of Rockland, unlawful trafficking in synthetic hallucinogenic drugs Nov. 19, 2011, in Waterville.

• Jeremy Gagnon, 36, of Waterville, theft by deception of more than $10,000 in benefits from the state through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families between Sept. 1, 2006, and Jan. 28, 2011; and two counts of unsworn falsification, one on Sept. 21, 2010, and one on Nov. 14, 2010.

• Joseph L. Gagnon, 55, of Vassalboro, violation of condition of release Jan. 17, 2012, in Vassalboro.

• James L. Mayhew IV, 33, of Fairfield, theft by unauthorized taking April 2, 2011, in Waterville.

• Benjamin D. Pilsbury, 29, of Waterville; three counts each of robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery and one count of burglary all between Aug. 28 and Sept. 5, 2011, in Augusta and Manchester. He was charged by separate indictment with one count of theft by unauthorized taking Sept. 26, 2011, in Winthrop.

• Richard L. Poulin, 37, of Fairfield, aggravated operating after habitual offender revocation, operating after revocation and criminal operating under the influence, all Dec. 3, 2011, in Vassalboro.

* Jacob D. Russell, 26, of Bass Harbor, arson, aggravated criminal mischief, leaving the scene of an accident, four counts each of theft by unauthorized taking and burglary of a motor vehicle and one count each of operating after suspension and driving to endanger, all May 22, 2011, in Augusta, China and Winslow.

• Ronald Eugene Wilson III, 35, of Hallowell, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person Jan. 14, 2012, in Waterville.

• Byron L. Wrigley Jr., 50, of Oakland, three counts of forging the name of another on an absentee ballot, the return envelope , or the application for an absentee ballot, between Oct. 11, 2010, and Oct. 22, 2010.

• James E. York, 53, of Bangor, operating after revocation, improper plates and violation of condition of release, all Dec. 12, 2011, in Winslow.
