Waterville logger pleads guilty

BATH — A Waterville logger pleaded guilty Wednesday in Sagadahoc County District Court to unlawfully cutting trees during trespass.

Ivan Martin, 65, was ordered to make restitution of nearly $27,000 to two Woolwich property owners for illegally harvesting nearly 18 acres of woods between August and October, according to a news release from the Maine Forest Service.

A second suspect, Chuck Schooley, 40, of Woolwich, was indicted in December by a Sagadahoc County grand jury for forgery and felony theft. He is in custody in Virginia and will be extradited to Maine to face these charges next week.
