WINSLOW — A man with a recent history of assault and criminal trespassing was charged again Thursday for both.

This time he also was badly hurt.

Chris Earl Mason, 39, of 2 Anthony Ave., Apt. 2, was arrested after he entered a neighbor’s home and started a fight, police chief Jeff Fenlason said.

Mason believed that his neighbor called police on him a few days earlier for disorderly conduct, Fenlason said.

“After Chris did some drinking, he thought he would go confront his neighbor,” he said.

At about 6:45 p.m. Thursday, Mason walked to his neighbor’s house and pounded on the door for three minutes until the man reluctantly let Mason in.

The man, whom police wouldn’t identify, clearly said he wanted Mason to leave and tried to call police with his cellphone, Fenlason said.

Mason grabbed the phone and smashed it.

Next, the homeowner armed himself with a knife. Mason grabbed the knife to try to take it away and cut his hand.

“He was injured pretty badly,” Fenlason said.

The homeowner dropped the knife and the two men fought for a few minutes. After the fight, Mason left the home and the homeowner called police on a landline phone, Fenlason said.

Mason, whom police described as extremely intoxicated, was arrested, taken to the hospital for stitches and then taken to Kennebec County jail, where he’s being held on $1,200 bail.

Mason was charged with assault and aggravated criminal trespass, class C felonies, and criminal mischief and obstructing a report of a crime, class D misdemeanors.

Mason was convicted of three assaults and two criminal trespassing charges in 2011, Fenlason said.
