I’m writing in reply to Stan Davis (Maine Compass, Feb. 14) about marriage for gay and lesbian couples (“In pondering marriage equality, consider what is best for child”).

I’m 15 years old and attend Messalonskee High School. I am volunteering to make marriage legal for same-sex couples.

There are people who worry that this will affect what children learn, religion and how it might change the institution of marriage.

We are not asking to do any of this. We just want to be included. To show love and commitment in the same way opposite-sex couples do.

We’re not asking to change the definition of marriage. We’re simply asking for marriage for everyone.

I commend Davis for taking a stand and writing that article. In my lifetime, I want to see everyone receive the same treatment under the law. Please vote for marriage equality.
