As a lifelong Republican, I must write this letter to express my embarrassment in Charles Webster, our Republican Party state chairman, and the uproar his caucus organization has caused.

Webster, by his magic wand, made the statewide caucus vote official before all the votes were reported, including Washington County and parts of Waldo County.

He usurped his duties and trivialized these caucus voters as meaningless, all the while Maine has been receiving national media coverage for the significance of the outcome.

Shame on Webster and his minions for not only embarrassing our state party, but more importantly, the entire state of Maine in nationwide terms. It is time for a change in state Republican leadership and time to adopt an open statewide primary vote.
