FARMINGTON — The University of Maine at Farmington recently announced a merit scholarship created exclusively for transfer students.

The UMF Transfer Academic Scholarship will be awarded to students with an outstanding college record who are admitted to UMF as full-time, matriculated transfer students, beginning in the fall. The scholarship is valued at $1,000 per year — $500 per semester — and is renewable for up to four years or until the completion of graduation requirements, whichever comes first.

To qualify, applicants are expected to achieve a college grade-point average of at least 3.50 in all college work before enrollment in a UMF degree program and to submit an enrollment deposit by the admission reply deadline.

In addition, UMF has created the Stevens Scholarship this year — a merit scholarship awarded to Maine first-year applicants.

No special application is necessary to be considered for any UMF merit scholarship. Recipients will be notified of their merit award upon admission.

However, UMF recommends that prospective students complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid to determine their eligibility for need-based financial assistance. It is available at fafsa.ed.gov.
