It’s time again for Benton residents to vote for their town officials.

The polls open at 9 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. Friday.

I urge them to vote for two deserving candidates who are running for office: Ryan Liberty for selectman, and Rick Lawrence for treasurer. Both are tireless workers and dedicated supporters of the town and its residents.

Due in no small part to their efforts, we have a beautiful park, a scenic gazebo, an outstanding veterans memorial, a bridge dedicated to our Medal of Honor recipients and one of the lowest tax rates in the state.

Voter turnout for town elections is never high, but voters shouldn’t assume their candidate will get the votes they need. It takes all of one minute for registered voters to check in, vote and cast their ballots.

Benton residents also should participate in the Town Meeting at Benton Grange, beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday.

On a bittersweet note, the town’s treasurer for the past 23 years, David Gagnon, is retiring. David has served the town diligently with grace and dignity, and he will be missed. Thanks to him, and his bride of more than 60 years, Anita, for allowing the town to have such a dedicated gentleman serve us.

I wish them good luck in their retirement years together.
