An American literature question about a fellow New Englander tripped up Winthrop apple grower-producer Ben Parks-Stamm on “Jeopardy!” Tuesday night.

The Princeton University graduate did not know the question to the final answer was “Who was Jack Kerouac?” on the popular quiz show in which contestents provide answers to questions. The beat generation writer, of French-Canadian heritage, was a native of Lowell, Mass.

Parks-Stramm, 32, who has a bachelor of science degree in engineering from Princeton, finished third with $6,485.

When interviewed Monday, Parks-Stramm couldn’t reveal how he finished on the show, but said, “I did have a great time.”

He and his wife, Betsy, own Kennebec Cider Co., an apple orchard and hard cider company.
