I’m responding to the article, “Maine pays big for bad teeth,” on Feb. 29.
Maine will continue to pay big until the state allows a registered dental hygienist/prevention specialist to be employed everywhere.
A dental hygienist makes a living preventing the disease, a dentist makes a living restoring from the disease.
Amazing not one dentist or anyone in the article spoke about the role dental hygienists play in prevention.
If we really were serious about curbing dental disease in this state, the media would interview dental hygienists, not dentists.
