ORONO — University of Maine football players who aspire to join five other former Black Bears in the National Football League will get to strut their stuff in front of pro scouts later this month.

The annual Pro Day is scheduled for March 22. Seniors who are no longer eligible for the UMaine team will participate that day in a number of drills and tests in front of scouts from the NFL, Canadian Football League and Arena leagues among others.

Maine finished No. 8 in the country last season. Spring workouts for the 2012 team will be held in April.

The Black Bears currently have five players on NFL teams, according to ESPN.com: Jovan Belcher of the Kansas City Chiefs, Stephen Cooper of the San Diego Chargers, Mike DeVito and Matthew Mulligan of the New York Jets and Montell Owens of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
