CORNVILLE — There will be new names and new faces following the election this year of a town clerk, the treasurer and the tax collector.

The election is scheduled for Friday. The annual Town Meeting is due to be held Saturday.

Evelyn Wood, the current town clerk, tax collector and register of voters, is retiring after 23 years in office.

Town Treasurer Jane Poulin, who has been in office for about six years, also is retiring.

On the election ballot Friday, Tammy Chamberland is running for town clerk and tax collector, both three-year terms. She is unopposed on the ballot.

In the race for town treasurer, Cornville Fire Chief Kenneth Hogate and Charlotte Prosser are seeking the position.

Voters at a special town meeting Dec. 19 rejected a proposal to replace the positions with that of a single administrative assistant, similar to a part-time town manager. The 21-21 tie sent the question to the Friday vote.

Myron C. Moody Jr. is seeking re-election as road commissioner and is being challenged this year by Matthew Quinn, who is not seeking re-election to the school board. There are no candidates listed on the ballot for Quinn’s school board seat.

First Selectman Melvin Blaisdell said last year’s municipal budget of $520,000 will increase about $45,000 if all articles are approved as written. Blaisdell said there will be some savings if voters agree to pare $20,000 from the proposed $155,000 for winter roads, but that would be offset by an extra $38,000 to be spent on paving Ames Road Hill.

Blaisdell said proposed spending should not affect the current tax rate because voters can take some of the money from surplus accounts.

In other money matters Saturday, voters will be asked to spend $60,000 for recycling and solid waste disposal, $52,000 for general government, up to $25,000 to purchase a plow truck and a total of $26,000 in three separate lines for fire protection.
