BURNHAM — A 40-year-old Burnham man was arrested early Monday morning after police say he terrorized and held his family hostage for several hours.

Shawn Sigston was arrested on charges of domestic assault, domestic criminal threatening, domestic terrorizing and kidnapping, said Lt. Jason Trundy of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office.

Trundy said that Sigston assaulted one family member while he held his wife and three children hostage inside their 4 North Horseback Road home.

Family members ultimately persuaded Sigston into letting them leave the house, said Trundy.

Once outside, Trundy said a family member called police about 5 a.m.

Sigston had left the home by the time Deputy James Porter and state Trooper Jonathan Russell arrived, Trundy said.

Sigston returned to the house about 7 a.m. and was taken into custody, the lieutenant said.

Sigston was being held Tuesday afternoon on $4,000 cash, $40,000 surety at Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset.
