MARS HILL — A northern Maine man has been indicted on drunken driving and drug possession charges in connection with a car crash in September that took the life of another man.

State police announced Tuesday that 51-year-old William Barton of Mars Hill was indicted on charges of operating under the influence causing death and operating under the influence causing serious bodily injury, along with possession of methamphetamines.

Police say Barton was behind the wheel of a pickup truck on Route 1 in Mars Hill on Sept. 3 that collided head-on with a car driven by 21-year-old Jerome York of Medway.

York’s passenger, his father Nathan York, died at the scene. His uncle, Herb Young, suffered serious injuries.

All occupants of both vehicles were wearing seat belts.

No court date has been scheduled.
