I was on a grand jury years ago when Alan Kelly was a prosecutor along with Evert Fowle. I was favorably impressed by his handling of difficult cases and his sensitivity toward the victims and their families.

I have read the newspaper over the years and have seen what a terrific job he has done. Therefore, I am baffled and disappointed that he has been overlooked as a candidate for the permanent position of head prosecutor.

I do not fault Meaghan Maloney’s ambition, but should she be vaulted over an experienced and seasoned prosecutor just because she wants the job? It seems that Maloney wants her pick of positions. I would think that state senator would be a pretty good gig.

However, it also seems that Augusta Democrats want who they want and are unwilling to take the chance their candidate may not get the job if she has competition.

Include Kelley on the list. He has worked hard for us and has proved that he deserves to be there.
