AUGUSTA — A Dixfield woman reportedly was hit on the head Wednesday morning on Water Street and robbed of her lunch box.

Lori James, 48, was taken to MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta to be evaluated after suffering injuries that weren’t believed to be life-threatening, Augusta police Sgt. Christopher Shaw said. The woman briefly lost consciousness, Shaw said.

A hospital spokeswoman said James was treated and released around noon Wednesday.

No one had been charged in connection with the crime as of Wednesday afternoon, but Shaw said police have a suspect in the robbery.

The incident occurred about 8:50 a.m. as James walked between two buildings near 386 Water St. James, an employee with a mental health agency, was on her way to meet a client, Shaw said.

The unidentified robber approached the woman from behind and hit her on the head with an unknown object, Shaw said.

A police report on the incident said the robber grabbed the woman’s lunch box and ran off, Shaw said. Additional details were not available.
