FORT MYERS, Fla. — Mike Mastrocola had a grand slam and five RBIs in the first game, then had a pair of doubles in the second game as the Colby College baseball team beat Western Connecticut State University 11-2 and 7-2 in a doubleheader Friday.

Brady Hesslein earned the win in Game 1, pitching a complete game to earn his second win of the season for Colby (5-5). He struck out six and walked five.

In the second game, Luke Geoghegan pitched five innings to earn the win, allowing one run. Nathan Ellis had two-runs singles in the sixth and seventh innings for the Mules.

Maine 5, Bryant 3: Scott Heath and Alex Calbick each had four hits as the Black Bears edged the Bulldogs in Smithfield, R.I.

Steve Perakslis pitched eight innings to earn his first win of the year for Maine (7-12). Perakslis allowed 10 hits, but walked none and struck out seven. Shawn Coughlin pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his second save.

Maine started its winning rally in the top of the seventh. With the score tied at 3, Calbick led off with a double. The Bears loaded the bases with two out, and Bryant (9-10) committed a two-run error on what would have been the third out.

Women’s lacrosse

Colby 11, Tufts 10: The Mules remained unbeaten, taking an early lead and hanging on to beat the Jumbos in Clermont, Fla.

Colby, which led 9-2 late in the first half, improves to 3-0 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference and 6-0 overall.

Lindsey McKenna had four goals and an assist for Colby, while Kate Pistel had two goals and two assists. Katharine Eddy, who scored the game-winning goal with 4:31 left to play, had two goals and an assist.

Men’s lacrosse

Tufts 9, Colby 4: Sophomore goalie Patton Watkins had 10 saves as the Jumbos beat the Mules in a NESCAC game in Medford, Mass.

Tufts (4-1, 3-0 in the conference) held Colby (2-2, 1-2 in the conference) scoreless until the 4:59 mark of the second quarter. The four goals allowed was the fewest in a conference games by the Jumbos since 2009.

Beau Wood, Peter Bowers and Ben Saperstein each had two goals for Tufts. John Jennings, James Wyse, Garth Franklin and Bjorn Knutson had one goal each for Colby.

Softball

Colby 5, Wisconsin-Superior 5: Brianne Wheeler hit a walk-off RBI single, driving in Katie Graichen and lifting the Mules to a win in Clermont, Fla.

Colby (2-8) scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to earn the win. Carolyn Bennett had a one-out single, moved to second on a singlel by Meaghan Lewia and scored on a two-run double by Graichen.

Frostburg State 5, Colby 4: The Mules lost by a run for the third time on their Florida trip, in Clermont, Fla.

Colby scored twice in the top of the seventh inning, but couldn’t complete the comeback.

College swimming

NCAA Division III championships: Colby’s Mason Roberts finished 17th in the 100 breaststroke in Indianapolis, Ind.

Roberts had a time of 57.22 seconds.
