Ultrasound technology has come a long way since I saw those first grainy pictures of my unborn daughter more than 20 years ago.

Still, I was blown away. Seeing those images on the screen never fail to amaze; that we could have a “window into the womb” is quite remarkable.

Before, only God was a witness to his creation; I truly believe he has allowed this technology to be developed for such a time as this. If this is really about being pro-choice, shouldn’t that be as fully informed a decision as possible?

I would offer that those in opposition to a required ultrasound prior to having an abortion are not pro-choice, but are pro-abortion.

Words such as “cells,” “mass,” “tissue” and “reproductive rights” sell abortions. Words such as “baby” and pictures on a screen of a tiny defenseless human being don’t.

Where are abortion providers the next day and in the weeks, months and years after an abortion has been performed? Where are they when these “walking wounded” mothers and fathers suffer from anxiety, depression, suicidal behaviors and substance dependence?

Do they offer post-abortive counseling? No, because they don’t see the need for it. No, because they are on to the next termination, and it’s no big deal.

The truth is, abortion providers have been just as deceived as their clients have been, and God is the only one who can open their eyes. Crisis pregnancy centers such as Open Arms in Augusta and Care Net in Rockland offer alternative choices to abortion and provide post-abortive counseling as well. There is hope and healing for mothers and fathers with empty arms.
