AUGUSTA — A city teen is facing charges after reportedly trying to set a fire inside the middle school at Cony.
The 13-year-old girl was charged with arson and criminal mischief, said Augusta Police Lt. Kevin Lully.
The girl’s name was withheld due to her age.
A police report indicates the Cony middle school student attempted to ignite items placed inside a toilet inside one of the school’s bathrooms.
The incident was reported around 11 a.m., Monday. Police charged the girl later that day. She was carrying a lighter when confronted by officers, Lully said.
Augusta firefighters were not called to respond.
Damage from the fire was limited to the toilet seat, Lully said.
