Ferguson to receive Principal’s Award

OAKLAND — Nickolas Ferguson of Sidney, a senior at Messalonskee High School, was recently selected to receive the 2012 Principal’s Award. The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic achievement and citizenship.

Butterfly pillow presentions planned

WILTON — Girls Talk, a literature-based mentoring program for fifth- and sixth-grade girls at Academy Hill School, is making butterfly pillows for the Martha Webber Breast Care Center as its community service project. The pillows are designed for women who have undergone surgery for breast cancer, to provide pain relief in the affected area. The project is the brain child of Katie Hallman, school nurse and a member of the Girls Talk Advisory Board, who is dealing with breast cancer.

Erskine host family information event set

SOUTH CHINA — Erskine Academy administrators recently announced an information session “We Need to Talk . . . About Becoming a Host Family for School Year 2012-13” set for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 5, in the school cafeteria. Attendees can learn about the international student program, the host family experience, and how to become a home stay placement for next school year. All are welcome to attend.

Kennebec Historical Society plans event

AUGUSTA — Candace Kanes, curator and historian for Maine Memory Network, will use Maine Memory Network resources and other sources, to create a picture of Augusta during the Civil War years. She will also discuss the Maine Memory Network and its role in helping to preserve and share local and state history. Kanes has worked at the Maine Historical Society as curator and historian for MMN, a digital museum and archive of images, documents and artifacts across the state, since 2003.
