AUBURN — A judge says a Maine man’s statement made to a law enforcement officer, his nephew, can be admitted as evidence at his murder trial.
The lawyer for Brian Nichols of Turner sought to suppress the statements, arguing that Nichols’ comments were intended for a family member.
Nichols is accused of shooting his wife, Jane Tetreault, in May 2010. He confessed to his nephew, a sheriff’s deputy, who approached with his gun drawn and ordered him to the ground. The Sun Journal says Nichols also told his nephew the locations of the body and the gun.
The judge ruled Thursday that the evidence will be permitted at his trial, which is scheduled for next month in Androscoggin County Superior Court.
