Some people are ignoring the possibility of Iran’s nuclear threat, as expressed by our State Department, the UN Security Council, the European Union and the International Atomic Energy Agency.

They discount the specter of Iran furnishing nuclear weapons to terrorist organizations, such as Hamas and Hezbollah. Since Iran currently supplies arms to these organizations, the threat is real.

It is true that the United States and possibly Israel possess nuclear weapons. No nation possessing nuclear weapons, however, has openly advocated the destruction of another nation, as has Iran.

President Barack Obama has moved to increase the sanctions currently in place against Iran. As a retired Army Reserve officer, with service during the Korean War, I do not advocate preventive war. If sanctions fail, however, and Iran develops nuclear weapons and the delivery systems it has tested, the unthinkable may be necessary.
