Lisa Miller of Somerville has been named the 2012 recipient of the Lincoln County Democrat’s Frances Perkins Award.

The award is presented by the Lincoln County Democratic Committee and recognizes a Lincoln County democrat who exemplifies the legacy of Frances Perkins, who for 12 years served as Franklin Roosevelt’s Secretary of Labor.

Miller is senior program officer for The Bingham Program, a charitable endowment based at Tufts Medical Center in Boston that serves rural Maine communities. She has served three terms in the Maine House of Representatives, representing District 52, and has served on the Health and Human Services Committee, then on the Appropriations Committee. Her legislative bills covered such areas as health care cost containment, rural school district governance and public health and wellness.

She is a longtime resident of Somerville, where she and her husband Roy raised three sons and where she has served five years on the Somerville School Committee and 24 years as the town health officer.

An awards dinner will take place at 6 p.m. April 13 at Damariscotta Lake Farm, 15 Bunker Hill Road, Jefferson. The cost is $38 per person. For more information, visit www.lincolncountydemocrats.com/.
