Let’s hope that the U.S. Supreme Court doesn’t come up with a partisan 5-4 decision on the Affordable Care Act.

The court’s credibility is at stake. The general public is turned off by Congress, where each party is obsessed with defeating the other party while ignoring the need to work together to solve the nation’s problems.

Centrists fall by the wayside. Note centrist Republican Sen. Olympia Snowe’s recent decision to retire, saying that political partisanship has made the Senate unproductive.

The Supreme Court is still held in high regard by the electorate. There is an uneasy feeling, however, that it too could become ineffective and unjust with its credibility shredded by partisanship. I’m remembering when a partisan vote of the court decided the presidential election in favor of George W. Bush in the year 2000.
