AUGUSTA — A proposal to expand The Red Barn restaurant’s parking lot by about 20,000 square feet goes to the Planning Board tonight.
Planners meet tonight at 7 p.m., in the lecture hall at Augusta City Center, for a public hearing on the restaurant’s minor development application to expand its parking lot by adding a gravel lot adjacent to its existing lot. The 455 Riverside Drive site is in the planned development district.
Planners are also scheduled to hold a public hearing on a conditional use application from Peter and Leah Haraden to change a non-conforming use to another non-conforming use, from an automobile business to an office.
The property is at 7 Townsend Road, in the low density residential district.
Repairs to starton Route 197 bridge
LITCHFIELD — Crews with TBuck Construction are beginning work this week to make repairs to the Route 197 bridge where it crosses Interstate 95.
Work will be done on a series of overnights at the bridge as crews repair damaged girders in the southbound lanes.
This project requires 25-minute traffic stops around mile marker 94 in the southbound lanes of the interstate, between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., according to a travel advisory from the Maine Turnpike Authority.
Once school ends in June, the bridge over the interstate will be closed for up to three weeks for deck repairs and expansion joint modifications. Local motorists will be detoured along Plains and Small roads.
The turnpike authority suggested alternate travel routes for travelers heading south: exiting at exit 103 and taking either Route 9 west to Sabattus interchange 86, or departing at exit 103 and continuing south on Interstate 295 to exit 11.
Travelers can then pick up the turnpike’s Falmouth spur interchange at mile marker 53.
Vassalboro selectmen to discuss fireworks
VASSALBORO — Selectmen expect to hear from a resident asking the town consider a fireworks ordinance when they meet tonight at 7 p.m. in the Town Office.
Jim Poulin is on the agenda with a request the board consider a town fireworks ordinance.
Also on the agenda:
* Jane Edwards will ask the board to add a resolution concerning clean election funding to the warrant for the annual Town Meeting in June.
* Donald Robbins, co-owner of the East Vassalboro Water company, will explain his request to put ordinance amendments intended to protect the company’s water supply on the Town Meeting warrant. Robbins previously explained the proposed ordinance changes at a Planning Board hearing last week.
* The board will also consider asking voters to approve an ordinance that would exempt active duty military personnel from vehicle excise taxes, as allowed by state law.
