AUGUSTA — The Maine Department of Economic and Community Development Tuesday announced the following Community Development Block Grants for area communities:

• In Farmington, $500,000 to install water, sewer and telecommunication lines, and to pave a road to a 32-unit apartment building.

• In New Vineyard, $180,000 for a handicapped accessible addition to the public library.

• In Skowhegan, $35,472 to finish an exterior stairwell at the public library.

• In Starks, $100,000 toward replacement of an unsafe bridge.

The grant program provides local governments with federal funds, administered by the development agency, to help local economies through job creation and retention, physical redevelopment and improved local tax bases.
