GARDINER — Gardiner Public Library, 152 Water St., is offering a number of free activities during school vacation week, Monday-April 20.

* A preschool story hour will take place from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesday. Children age 3-5 are welcome.

* An Afternoon Board Games will take place from 2:30-5 p.m. Wednesday, for children 5 and older and adult participants. Games include Scrabble, Apples to Apples, Yahtzee, Racko, Battleship and more.

* Children will make a personalized book mark from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday. Supplies will be available in the Children’s Room and the Young Adult Area.

* “The Adventures of Tintin” will be shown at 2:30 p.m. Friday in the Hazard Reading Room.

Maine State Museum

AUGUSTA — The Maine State Museum has announced its April school vacation week family activities.

* The Maine Squeeze Accordion Ensemble will perform at 11 a.m. today. Audience participation is encouraged and admission to the museum will be free.

* Paula Benoit will read her children’s book, “Baxter in the Blaine House,” at 11 a.m. and sign copies of the book from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday and from noon to 3 p.m. with a reading at 1 p.m. on Thursday. Baxter is a Jack Russell terrier who lives with Gov. Paul LePage and his family in the Blaine House. Books will be for sale in the museum store.

* There will be a history touch cart from 10 a.m. to noon and a textile touch cart from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday. The history touch cart includes historic tools, clothing and personal items. The textile touch cart includes wool, cotton, flax, a silk worm cocoon and more. Participants will learn how to card wool and see how a drop spindle and loom works.

* The Curator’s Corner from 10 a.m. to noon and 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday will feature the museum’s history curators exploring a variety of historic Maine artifacts. Participants may bring a mystery object for identification.

* At Home in Maine Attic Games will take place from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday and Friday. Participants will view the At Home in Maine exhibit and play some old-fashioned and classic games.

* Paper Quilts: Flower Garden Patterns will take place on Thursday and Friday. Participants will see the latest quilt on view in the At Home in Maine exhibit, “Memory Bouquet Variations,” made in 1923 by Annie Mason Bates of Dexter and design a flower garden quilt out of paper.

* The history touch cart will again be available, from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday.

All ages are welcome and families are encouraged to attend. Admission costs $2 for adults, $1 for adults older than 62 and children 6-18 years of age and is free for children younger than 6 free. The maximum charge for families is $6.

AUGUSTA — The Children’s Discovery Museum, 171 Capitol St., has announced its April school vacation week activities.

* Chewonki will present “Animal Adaptations — Survival in the Wild” from 11 a.m. to noon Monday. Children will learn about animal adaptations, try on costumes, see three live, non-releasable animals and create their own animal adaptation.

* Children’s book author Lynn Plourde will read her books “Dino Pets Go to School” and “Only Cows Allowed” at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

* The Maine Bicycle Coalition will talk about bicycle and pedestrian safety at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Brandi Nelson from Golden Touch Massage in Manchester will provide chair massages to parents for $5; participants must bring an adult to supervise their children.

* An Earth Day Celebration on Thursday will include ongoing activities such as planting seeds. Bruce White of the Maine State Planning Office will talk about recycling at 10:30 a.m. there will be a 1 p.m. talk about composting.

* Singing with Archie and Friends at 11 a.m. Friday.
