BATH — Ben Spencer had four goals to lead Kents Hill to a 9-3 win over Hyde in boys lacrosse action Friday.

Chris McKee added three goals for the Huskies (4-0) while Will Hoffman had two goals and an assist. Riley Francis chipped in with two assists and Jake Ades, David Marshall and Zach Mines had one assist apiece. Jared Cockrell stopped 11 shots.

Alec Randell made eight saves for Hyde (1-3).

College baseball

Tufts 14, Colby 4: Senior pitcher Dave Ryan struck out 13 in seven innings and the Jumbos capitalized on eight Colby errors to earn the New England Small College Athletic Conference East Division victory.

Sam Sager went 3 for 5 with an RBI and three runs scored and Matt Collins drove in three to lead Tufts (13-6, 4-3), whose first eight runs were unearned.

Taro Gold went 2 for 3 with two RBIs to lead Colby (9-12, 0-4).

St. Josephs 9-8, UMaine-Farmington 3-3: The Beavers took the lead early in both games but the Monks rallied to sweep the doubleheader in Standish.

UMF (3-18) was on the verge of an upset in Game 1, leading 3-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning. St. Joe’s (25-3) eventually broke a 3-3 tie with five runs in the bottom of the sixth. No. 9 hitter Brandon Chase led off the inning with a home run on a two-strike pitch, and Alex Lorenc added a three-run homer on an 0-2 pitch.

In Game 2, UMF scored twice in the top of the first, with a key hit being a two-run double by Mt. View graduate Ethan Jean. The Monks took the lead for good in the second inning and led 4-2 when they again struck for five runs in the bottom of the sixth. Jean had two hits in the second game for the Beavers and pitched a scoreless inning of relief, and Chase batted leadoff for St. Joe’s in the nightcap and banged out three hits.

College softball

Tufts 5, Colby 2: Rebecca DiBiase struck out 10 as the Jumbos remained unbeaten in NESCAC play by defeating the Mules in Waterville.

Tufts (20-3 overall, 7-0) scored its first three runs on two errors and a passed ball. The Mules came within a few feet of taking the lead in the fifth inning, as Brianne Wheeler’s bases-loaded drive hit off the left field fence. A Colby runner was thrown out on the play and the Mules (7-14 overall, 0-4) settled for only two runs in the inning.

Sara Hedtler had three hits for Tufts. Emily Beinecke added two hits, including a two-run double. Wheeler, Lindsay Peterson and Lauren Becker each had two hits for the Mules. Colby pitcher Megan Michie struck out eight and allowed only two earned runs.

Also Friday: Messalonskee grad Juliana Fekete scored two runs as Worcester Polytechnic softball defeated Wheaton, 5-2.
