FARMINGTON — Jack MacVane singled twice and drove in a pair of runs as the University of Maine at Farmington salvaged a doubleheader split with Thomas College, beating the Terriers 4-3 in Game 2.

The loss ends a 15-game winning streak for Thomas (21-10, 16-2 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference East Division). The Terriers won the first game 16-5.

UMF is now (6-21, 5-12)

In the first game, Thomas scored eight runs in the first inning. The Terriers finished with 18 hits. Ben Goodall singled and hit a two-run home run for Thomas. Chris Farrar of Sidney threw six innings, giving up four hits and a walk for the win.

In Game 2, Joe Sullivan earned his first collegiate win for UMF, allowing eight hits while walking four and striking out two in 5 2/3 innings.

Skowhegan’s Cody Vigue had two hits for Thomas.

Softball

Thomas 5-9, Lyndon State 1-4: Alei Collier drove in two runs in the second inning to help the Terriers earn a win in Game 1 of a doubleheader sweep in Waterville.

Kelsey Crowe added a three-run home run in the sixth inning of the first game for Thomas (12-19-1, 9-6-1 in the conference).

In the second game, Thomas jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the third inning.

Maine 8, Husson 0: The Black Bears had 13 hits and received a strong performance from Beth Spoehr and beat the Eagles in Orono.

Spoehr struck out seven and allowed just four hits in six innings to earn her third shutout of the season.

EmJ Fogel went 2 for 4 with two RBIs to lead Maine. Jessica Bur also went 3 for 4 and scored a pair of runs.

Skowhegan graduate Becca McCarty (6-6) took the loss for Husson. She struck out one and gave up five runs in four innings.

Bowdoin 13-9, UMF 5-1: Bowdoin scored nine runs in the final two innings of Game 1, on the way to the doubleheader sweep at Prescott Field in Farmington.

Cielle Collins singled three times and drove in three runs to lead Bowdoin (22-10) in Game 1. Christine Tovey singled, doubled and drove in two runs for UMF (10-14).

In Game 2, Gen Barlow hit a grand slam in the sixth inning to help the Polar Bears take the sweep. Tovey and Shannon Mitchell each doubled for the Beavers.

Also Tuesday: Gardiner Area High School graduate Forrest Chadwick had two hits and two RBIs in the University of Southern Maine baseball team’s 7-5 loss to the University of Massachusetts Boston in Waltham, Mass.
