READFIELD—A pair of local men kicked off Kents Hill School grounds for skateboarding responded by causing several thousand dollars in damage to three of the school’s buses, according to police.
Thomas Martha, 18, and Christopher Pelletier, 19, were issued summonses charging each with aggravated criminal mischief, Capt. Daniel Davies of the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office said. Both men are expected to appear in Kennebec County Superior Court at 8:30 a.m., on June 26.
Kennebec County Sheriff’s Deputy Scott Cyrway was called to Kents Hill around 7 a.m., Monday after school officials found damage to three buses. The buses, which were parked behind the Alfond Athletic Center, all had slashed tires and smashed windows and lights. Several mirrors also were destroyed, Davies said. The vandals caused approximately $7,000 in damage, he said.
Officials at Kents Hill, a private high school on Route 17, said two skateboarders had been escorted from the property a few days before.
“They were disrespectful to the employees at the facility when asked to leave,” Davies said. “Deputy Cyrway learned the duo did not attend Kents Hill but do visit the area regularly for skateboarding.”
Cyrway, who also is Kennebec County’s Drug Abuse Resistance Education officer, talked to students in the program in hopes of identifying the two skateboarders. Those discussions eventually led to Martha and Pelletier.
Cyrway found the baseball bat and knife used to damage the buses, Davies said.
“The men confessed to their crimes and were subsequently summonsed for aggravated criminal mischief,” he said.
