FARMINGALE—A Rome woman was injured Wednesday when her car crashed into a truck on Maine Avenue.
Samantha Riddle, 19, was taken to MaineGeneral Medical Center with cuts and abrasions to her legs and face, said Sgt. Scott Taylor of the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office. None of Riddle’s injuries appeared to be life-threatening.
The truck driver, Theodore Barry Jr., 30, of Farmingdale, was not injured.
The crash occurred around 9:30 a.m., as Barry, driving a 1995, 1-ton Dodge pickup truck with a rack body, made a left turn out of Bowie Brothers Well Drilling at 581 Maine Avenue to head south. He pulled in front of Riddle’s northbound 1997 Subaru Station wagon.
“She had no time to react,” Taylor said.
Riddle’s Subaru hit the truck broadside. The impact dislodged the truck’s dual wheels from the frame and tore the hood and a fender off the Subaru, Taylor said.
“He just didn’t see her,” Taylor said of Barry. “There was a lot of traffic coming both ways. He was looking for a place to dive out and he just didn’t see her. He felt pretty bad about it.”
Traffic was slowed for about 30 minutes.
There are no charges in connection with the crash, Taylor said.
