NEWPORT — Nokomis scord three runs in the fifth inning and four in the sixth to beat Maine Central Insitute 7-3 in the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B season opening softball game for both teams Wednesday.
Ashley Griffith led the Warriors with four hits, two RBIs and two runs while teammate Danielle George added a two run single.
Brianna Losee singled twice and doubled for Maine Central Institute, while Hilary Maloon added a pair of singles.
Erskine 7, Edward Little 0: The Eagles scored all of their runs in the top of the the sixth inning to break open a scoreless game and earn the KVAC A win in Auburn.
Edward Little (0-1) loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth inning, but did not score. Meryl Bond led off the Erskine sixth with a triple, and the Eagles (1-0) banged out six more hits in the inning.
Bond also doubled, and Alison Gauvin and Mikhaela Helm each singled twice for Erskine. Alyssa Gartley pitched a five-hit shutout, striking out six.
Camden Hills 18, Mt. View 10: The Windjammers rapped out 13 hits and took advantage of six errors to win the KVACs B opener for both teams.
Hannah Bode led the Windjammers with four singles while Amy Haynes added a double and two singles and Becca Hilt two base hits.
LeeAnn Larrabee led the Mustangs with a double and triple while Fran Stevens singled three times and Haley Giggey doubled and singled.
Hampden 10, Lawrence 3: Ashley Danforth had three singles to lead the Broncos to the KVAC A win in Fairfield.
Makayla Clewley, Samantha Bowler and Olivia Plaised each had two singles for Hampden (1-0).
Sophia Lindsay had a solo home run for Lawrence (0-1) while Nicole Bowen added two singles.
