I am trying to understand some of the things that go on in this state.
When we buy a new vehicle, we must take the window sticker with us in order to register that vehicle and we must pay taxes on whatever that sticker says, not what we paid for the vehicle.
In other words, if the sticker price is $42,000 and we pay only $38,000 for a new vehicle, the state collects taxes on $4,000 that we never spent. How can we be taxed on money we never spent?
If we purchase any rebuilt item from an auto parts store, we are charged a core charge, which is to ensure the store gets our old one back. The charge is set by how badly they want the old one back. So if we buy a rebuilt starter for $100 and it has a $50 core charge, we have to pay $150 plus tax to leave with this item. When we bring back the old one, we get $50 back less the taxes. Again, the state keeps taxes we paid on money we never spent.
The more stupid things like this that we let state/government get away with, the more of this stupid stuff they are going to pull on us. You can only stretch a dollar so far.
I am assuming that they need the money for the Turnpike Authority or to pay a healthy retirement to someone who stole from the state or some such thing.
And now the governor wants to make the sick and elderly pay for this. If we as the people of this state, don’t put our foot down, where and when will this stop?
