BREWER — Sonja Morse struck out 13 in six innings to lead the Cony High School softball team past Brewer 7-0 in a Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class A game Friday afternoon.
Emily Soule and Nicole Rugan each drove in a pair of runs for Cony (2-0), which out-hit the Witches 9-1.
Olivia Deeves also drove in a run and Brochu had a single and a double. Molly Russell had two singles as well for Cony.
Brewer dropped to 0-2.
Gardiner 2, Leavitt 1, 8 innings: Gardiner scored a run in the top of the seventh and another in the top of the eighth to earn the KVAC B win.
Taylor Banister led off the top of the eighth with a double and then took third on a passed ball. Kristal Smith then hit a sacrifice fly to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead.
Smith then went out and earned the save, striking out two Hornets in the bottom of the eighth.
“It was quite a good game for this early in the season,” Gardiner coach Ginger Shaw said.
Brittany Rollins started for Gardiner (2-0). She struck out 11 and walked one. Kylee Granholm added an RBI single.
Michelle Morin struck out eight to lead Leavitt (1-1).
Oak Hill 15, Morse 3: Sadie Goulet and Brianna Hodgkins both hit two-run doubles as the Raiders scored six times in the third inning on their way to a KVAC B win in Bath.
Brooke LeBel added two singles and three RBIs for Oak Hill (1-1). Alyssa Rouleau had two singles and drove in a run. Kortni Michaud earned the win, allowing one run while striking out eight and walking none.
Hannah Russell and Morgan Cram both doubled for Morse (0-1).
Messalonskee 20, Lewiston 3, 5 innings: Emily York, Courtney Veilleux and Necole Harrison each homered to lead the Eagles to the KVAC A win in Lewiston. York and Veilleux each went 4 for 5 with three singles as well. Harrison also doubled for Messalonskee (2-0).
Jordan Roy had three hits and Bri Garland added a pair for Messalonskee.
Lewiston, which had just three hits, dropped to 0-2.
Maranacook 16, Belfast 6: Sarah Boynton pitched a complete game and drove in five runs to lead the Black Bears to the KVAC B win at Belfast.
Boynton had a pair of triples, including one that cleared the bases.
Freshman Kaitlyn Chick had two triples and three RBIs for Maranacook (1-1).
Belfast dropped to 0-2.
Wiscasset 8, Hall-Dale 4: Sydney Morin pitched a complete game, allowing six hits, and the Wolverines scored six runs in the first three innings to earn the Mountain Valley Conference victory.
Briana Goud, Charlene Reed ad Morin all doubled for Wiscasset (1-0).
Eva Shepherd and Olivia Maynard doubled to lead the Bulldogs (0-1).
