News media, classrooms and families everywhere can help better educate us about political awareness, our only power to accomplish change.

Through democracy, we reach consensus through voting. Politics can be ugly. but also helps keep us freer than we otherwise would be.

Too many people do not care for politics and understandably so. By remaining aloof, however, we allow our power to be used by others.

Redistricting in its recent formulas promote red-blue, rich-poor, ethnic-white power struggles. A district should be a geographic area with even boundaries based upon population densities.

Red-blue cherry-picking of boundaries so districts can include folks of only same persuasion results in an “us vs. them” mentality and seems to be why political parties are so at odds with each other.

America is many people of many persuasions, and we sorely need consensus builders who put country before party.

I suggest a maximum of two terms and then out for everyone who is elected to a political office. They should be paid minimum wage with minimum expenses for service to their country. That system might work better than having career politicians who are millionaires and cannot relate to what is best for most of us.

Education and highlighting egregious policies in news media and classrooms can help us focus on issues that affect us all. We the people need to vote our power.
