WATERVILLE — David Pless won three events and Waterville Senior High School graduate Isaiah Spofford finished second in two to help the Bates College men’s track team win the State of Maine Track and Field Championships on Saturday at Colby College.

Colby College’s Dom Kone won the Alan G. Hillman Memorial Most Vaulable Track Athlete Award after winning the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. Kone beat Spofford in both events, 10.78 to 11.18 in the 100 and 22.33-22.69 in the 200.

Pless won the shot put (57 feet, 7 inches), discus (163-9), and hammer throw (180-6) to lead the Bobcats, who scored 235 points.

Bowdoin was second with 222 while Southern Maine (82.5) and Colby (74.5) followed.

Women’s lacrosse

Colby 8, Middlebury 6: The No. 8 Mules rallied from a 4-0 deficit to beat No. 6 Middlebury in a New England Small College Athletic Conference game at Kohn Field.

The victory secured the No. 2 seed in the conference playoffs for the Mules (12-1, 8-1). Colby will host No. 7 Hamilton in a quarterfinal game next Saturday.

Colby scored the first five goals of the second half to take a 6-4 lead. Claire Donegan scored the first two before Hilary Barr tied it with 13 minutes, 28 seconds left.

Lindsey McKenna then scored the next two goals and Colby hung on for the win. McKenna finished with three goals.

Margaret Souther scored two goals for Middlebury (10-2, 7-2).

Thomas 18, Green Mountain 7: Ceara DiBiase scored seven goals and added four assists to lead the Terriers in a North Atlantic Conference game in Poultney, Vt.

Teshia Cates had eight saves to earn the victory for Thomas (5-6, 2-3 in NAC), which moved closer to clinching a conference tournament berth. Jen Day also scored for Thomas.

New England College 9, UM-Farmington 4: The Pilgrims jumped out to a 9-0 lead and held on to beat the Beavers in a North Atlantic Conference East Division win in Henniker, N.H.

Emma Morrison had two goals for UMF, which falls to 4-5, 2-3 in the conference.

NEC improves to 8-8, 4-1 in the conference.

Men’s lacrosse

Colby 11, Middlebury 10: Ian Deveau set up John Jennings for the game-winning goal with 1:59 left in overtime as the Mules beat the Panthers in a New England Small College Athletic Conference game in Waterville.

Deveau and Jennings hooked up for the final three goals of the game for Colby (8-4, 5-4 in the conference). Jennings finished with seven goals and now has 30 this season. Deveau finished with four assists.

Stew Kerry scored with 52 seconds left in the game to bring Middlebury (3-9, 2-7) to within one and Brian Ayers tied it with seven seconds left.

Lyndon 12, Thomas 10: Max Ercole scored five goals to lift Lyndon in a NAC game at Lyndon Center, Vt.

Ryan Brown added three goals for Lyndon (3-5, 3-4) as well.

Gunnar Shelton scored three goals while Sean Machin, Derek Racine and Doug Tibbets each added a pair for the Terriers (4-9, 3-4).

Baseball

Thomas 5-11, Castleton 4-2: Rob Nutter, Daniel Lerardi and Taylor Livingston each had two-out RBIs in the bottom of the sixth inning to help Thomas erase a 2-1 deficit and pull out a come-from-behind victory in the first game of a doubleheader sweep in Waterville.

Senior Chris Farrar earned the victory in the opener. He pitched a complete game and allowed four hits while striking out six.

In the second game, Goodall, Nutter, Josh Gray and Thomas Cameron each drove in runs to help the Terriers (24-13, 19-5 in NAC) grab a 4-0 lead in the first inning. Goodall capped the offensive outburst with a grand slam in the sixth inning.

Sophomore James McLamb earned the win, throwing a complete game. He gave up three hits struck out one.

Colby 5-7, Bowdoin 6-5: Jason Buco hit a key two-run home run Brendan Gallagher and Robb Ardnt had RBI singles and Mike Mastrocola stole home to lead the Mules in Game 2 to salvage a split of a NESCAC doubleheader in Brunswick.

Robb Ardnt and Brendan Gallagher each had RBI singles and Dakota Rabbitt earned the victory with six efficient innings.

In the opener, Mastrocola had three hits for Colby (13-14, 3-6) but it wasn’t enough to hold off Brunswick (17-12, 5-4).

Ian Edwards earned the victory and Jon Lefeber had four hits for Bowdoin.

New England College 59, UM-Farmington 3-8: The Pilgrims scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to win Game 1 and sweep a doubleheader against the Beavers in Henniker, N.H.

Ed Flaherty homered in the forth to tie the first game at 3 for UMF (7-25, 6-15 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference East Division).

In Game 2, Dale Winchenbach, Zach Keene and Ben Yarian all doubled for UMF.

Softball

Husson 2-7, UM-Farmington 1-1: Skowhegan Area High School graduate Becca McCarty pitched seven innings, allowing one run on four hits, while walking one and striking out five to earn the win the first game of the Eagles’ doubleheader sweep in Farmington.

McCarty pitched five innings in the second game, allowing four hits and striking out four to earn the win as well for Husson (27-9, 15-1 in the North Atlantic Conference).

In the second game, Maranacook Community School graduate Heidi Shaw hit an RBI triple for Husson.

Senior Lona Sargent had two hits and fellow senior Shannon Mitchell had a double in Game 1 for UMF (10-20, 6-10 NAC).

Stony Brook 3-1, Maine 0-0: Suzanne Karath drove in the eventual game-winning run in the first game with an RBI single and the Seawolves finished off the America East doubleheader sweep with an unearned run in the second game.

EmJ Fogel, Jessica Burk and Jennifer Eberhardt each had hits in the opener for Maine (11-26, 3-7 in America East).

Karath scored the winning run in the second game for Stony Brook (31-11, 10-1).

Bowdoin 7-8, Colby 1-0: Meaghan Lewia and Brianne Wheeler both had three hits, but the Mules dropped a doubleheader to the Polar Bears in Waterville.

Lewia had a double and a single and scored the only run in the first game for Colby (7-19, 0-9 in the NESCAC). Wheeler had two hits in the opener as well.

Also Saturday: Waterville Senior High School Kyle Bishop had three hits and three RBIs in Game 1 and Messalonskee High School graduate Dylan Foster had two hits and three RBIs in Game 2 as the Husson baseball team swept a doubleheader from Lyndon State 8-2 and 12-0. … Hall-Dale High School graduate Ryan Leach allowed four hits and one run, walking one and striking out eight as the Franklin Pierce baseball team beat Stonehill College 2-1 in the first game of a doubleheader in Easton, Mass. Franklin Pierce also won the second game, 7-3.
