GARDINER — Courtney Fowler took a no-hitter into the sixth inning as the Maine Central Institute softball team beat Gardiner Area High School 1-0 in a Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B game Thursday.
Fowler had four strike outs for MCI (2-2). The Huskies scored their only run in the sixth inning when Kat Smedberg singled, stole second and scored on a double by Fowler.
Brittany Rollins was the tough-luck loser for Gardiner (3-1). She allowed one run on four hits, while striking out nine in a complete-game effort.
Waterville 4, Nokomis 0: Ally Forkey pitched a complete game shutout as the Purple Panthers beat the Warriors in a KVAC B game in Waterville.
Forkey struck out nine and walked one for Waterville (2-2). Danielle Jacques was 3 for 4 with two RBIs for the Panthers. Forkey added two hits and an RBI and Kendra Johnson also had two hits.
Courtney Carlson and Lacey Kent-Webber each singled for Nokomis (2-1).
Madison 13, St. Dominic 1, 5 innings: Kayla Belanger had a triple and a home run as the Bulldogs beat the Saints in a Mountain Valley Conference game in Madison.
Sierra LeBlanc aded a double and a single, while Courtney Taylor had two singles for Madison (4-0). Emily McKenney allowed one run on two hits, while striking out four for the Bulldogs.
St. Dom’s falls to 0-2.
MCI 10, Mt. View 3: On Wednesday, Courtney Fowler had two triples as the Huskies beat the Mustangs in Thorndike.
Kat Smedberg added two singles for MCI. Kylee Alton scored two runs.
Baseball
Gardiner 12, MCI 5: Josh Mashke had two singles and two RBIs and freshman Josh McKelvey pitched a complete game as the Tigers won in Gardiner.
The Tigers (2-2) scored six times in the second inning to take control. Dennis Meehan added a double for Gardiner.
MCI falls to 0-4.
