BANGOR — Thomas College scored seven runs in the top of the fourth inning to upset No. 1 Husson in the opening round of the North Atlantic Conference softball tournament Friday.

No. 4 Thomas (14-23-1) will play No. 2 Castleton at noon today at Husson. Husson (29-11) will play No. 3 New England College at 10 a.m. in an elimination game.

In the fourth inning, Winslow’s Ali Kriegel started the Terriers’ rally with a one-out single, and went to second when Sara Moynihan walked. After a wild pitch, Kriegel scored when Monmouth’s Kristi Hilton laid down a suicide squeeze bunt. McKayla Gastia and Lauren Hachey each drove in two runs in the big inning.

Sara Pavento earned the win for Thomas, giving up eight hits and four walks with one strikeout. Becca McCarty took the loss for the Eagles. Victoria Overlock and Ashley Smith each drove in two runs for Husson.

Colby 1, Trinity 0: Megan Michie threw her first college shutout and had an RBI triple in the top of the seventh inning as the Mules beat the Bantams in Hartford, Conn.

Michie won her fifth game of the season for Colby (11-19, 1-9 in the conference). She scattered five singles, had five strikeouts and no walks.

The Mules scored the only run of the season when Erica Pulford reached on an error in the seventh and scored on Michie’s triple.

Baseball

Thomas 6, Husson 0: Messalonskee High School graduate Chris Farrar scattered seven hits and struck out seven to lead the Terriers over the Eagles in the opening round of the North Eastern Athletic Conference baseball tournament in Castleton, Vt.

Farrar did not walk a hitter. No. 2 Thomas (25-15) will face No. 4 Colby-Sawyer today at noon at Spartan Field. No. 3 Husson (19-17) will face top-seed Castleton in an elimination game at 9 a.m. Colby-Sawyer defeated Castleton, 7-2, in Friday’s first game.

Skowhegan’s Cody Vigue went 3 for 4 and scored three runs for Thomas. Taylor Livingston added three RBIs for the Terriers, who scored four runs in the bottom of the second inning to take control. After Rob Nutter led off the inning with a walk, Vigue and Thomas Cameron followed with back-to-back hits to load the bases. Livington reached on an error, which allowed two runs to score. Jeff Richardson and Ethan Hurley also drove in runs for the Terriers.

Livingston added an RBI single in the sixth and the eighth.

Shawn Smith had two hits for Husson. Nate Adams took the loss, allowing 10 hits and three walks with two strikeouts.

Colby 7, Plymouth State 6: The Mules scored five runs in the first three innings and held on for the win over the Panthers in Gorham.

Devin McConnell had a double and a single for Colby (16-14). Robb Arndt, Luke Duncklee, and Taro Gold also had two hits for the Mules.

Paul Reny had two of the six hits for the Panthers (13-19), while Ryan McIntosh had a double.

Men’s lacrosse

Castleton 24, Thomas 2: Spartans freshman Zach Davidson scored 11 goals and had an assist in a North Atlantic Conference men’s lacrosse quarterfinal game Friday iN Castleton, Vt.

Jesse Morkeski  stopped 24 shots for Thomas, which ends ths eason 4-11. Castleton improves to 10-7 and advances to the semifinals.
