My concern is about the women’s basketball team at the University of Maine, Orono. Cindy Blodgett was head coach at the University of Maine, but it wasn’t long the administration decided she wasn’t good enough.

So they called Blodgett and fired her, a no-class act. She did the best she could with what she had to work with. She had a pretty good group of girls, but not good enough for what the school wants, which is a winning team.

To get a winning team at Maine, you need tough talented girls, and Maine can’t get those kind of people to come to UMaine. As everyone knows, those kind of players go to bigger colleges like University of Connecticut, Tennessee and so on.

When Blodgett played for UMaine, she brought the crowd, standing room only, at every game. She put UMaine on the front page and made the university a good amount of money. They won a lot of games and went to the playoffs.

Blodgett put her heart and soul in the game. My gripe is the University of Maine fired her and brought in another coach.

That man thought he was going to work miracles. Well, his record isn’t any better than hers and never will be. The University of Maine should have let Blodgett run out her contract. She didn’t deserve that kind of treatment.

I’ve known Cindy and her family for a long time; they are great people.

Cindy has moved on and is doing quite well.

That’s my prospective on sports.
