GARDINER — The Messalonskee girls lacrosse team overcame an early two-goal deficit and held of Gardiner to earn an 8-7 victory on Tuesday.
The Eagles (5-3) fell behind 2-0 but rallied to take a 4-3 lead at the half. They went on a 3-0 late to take an 8-6 lead before Ally Day drew the Tigers within a goal with a minute and a half to play.
Day scored six goals for Gardiner (1-7).
Sydney Gagne led the Eagles (5-3) with three goals while Katie Bernatchez scored two and Mara Balboni, Sara Grenier and Haley Pelletier had one apiece. Goalie Izzy Skinner made four saves.
Softball
Rangeley 6, Greenville 5: Abby Abby belted a three-run triple then stole home with the eventual winning run in top of the seventh inning to lead the Lakers to the East/West Conference win.
Seve Deery-DeRaps added a two-run single during the rally as Rangeley (4-2) rallied for six runs. Greenville nearly pulled the game out with a four-run rally in the bottom of the seventh.
Ellie Brooks had a pair of hits for Rangeley while Hollie Hersey, Miranda Drinkwater and Molly Foley had two hits each for Greenville (3-3).
Greenville 13, Valley 0, 5 innings: Holly Hersey scored four runs and drove in three as the Lakers cruised to a win in Greenville.
