AUGUSTA — A city man has been arrested on a charge of criminal use of explosives as authorities search his home on Gage St.
The man, Jeremy Upp, 36, of 42 Gage St., was taken by police to the Kennebec County jail, police said. Police and investigators with the state Fire Marshal’s Office are executing a search warrant at the apartment building looking for “potential energetic material,” which means an explosive or detonating item.
“It’s still unfolding, so we don’t know exactly what’s in there,” said Sgt. Ken Grimes with the fire marshal’s office.
Gage Street remains partially shut down by authorities and caution tape has been set up across the driveway at 42 Gage St. Authorities first arrived there at 12:30 p.m. today.
Neighbors have reported seeing and hearing strange activity around the house for the last month or so.
