SKOWHEGAN — An emergency medical services crew from Redington-Fairview General Hospital was credited Monday with saving the life of a man who crashed his car into a house during an apparent heart attack.

Deputy Police Chief Dale Lancaster said the man, Brian L. Cooley, 51, of Dr. Mann Road, had a “medical event” when his 1998 Jeep Cherokee went off the road about 3:30 p.m Sunday.

The crash damaged a wall, the brick foundation and the base of an exterior brick chimney of the house at 20 Greenwood Ave.

“The fire department responded; EMS responded — I believe they brought him back to life at the scene,” Lancaster said.

No one at EMS offices in Skowhegan could comment Monday.

Cooley was taken by ambulance to the Skowhegan hospital and later by ambulance to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, according to Lancaster.

He said Cooley’s Jeep, traveling south toward Jewett Street, apparently drifted through the stop sign at Locust Street, then swerved right, passing over the lawn at 24 Greenwood Ave. and stopping at the house next door. No one else was injured.

No charges are expected to be filed.

Lancaster said there was substantial damage to the house and to the Jeep.
